Independent 3PL selection guidance
3PL broker versus independent sourcing advisor
The most important question is not the label. It is who pays, which providers can be considered, how recommendations are scored, and whether compensation affects the shortlist.
Follow the compensation
Some marketplaces and brokers receive provider-paid referral or success fees. Those arrangements can be legitimate, but buyers should understand the amount, timing, eligible network, and whether compensation varies by provider. Ask for the answer in writing.
Understand the search universe
A closed network can make sourcing fast, but it may omit qualified operators. An independent engagement should explain how the market was screened, why each finalist was included, and which providers were excluded.
Demand a documented comparison
A useful recommendation connects each finalist to the operating brief, normalized economics, implementation risk, service commitments, reference findings, and contract issues. Rankings should be reproducible from the agreed criteria.
DockDemand's model
DockDemand is paid solely by the consumer brand client. We accept no 3PL referral fees, kickbacks, or hidden payments. The brand contracts directly with the selected provider and retains the proposal and decision record.
